What is a screening mammogram looking for: A screening looks for signs of cancer.

Who is the screening mammogram for: This exam is done yearly in women aged 40 and older who have no breast symptoms of changes in their breast exam.

The goal of a screening mammogram is to find breast cancer when it’s too small to be felt by a woman or her doctor. Finding breast cancers early  greatly improves a woman’s chance for successful treatment.

How to Prepare For Your Screening Mammogram

Please let us know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have experienced new lumps or changes in your breasts.

• Please bring your insurance card with you to your exam.
• Do not use deodorant, powder, perfumes, or creams under your arms or on or around your breasts (or be prepared to wash them off before the exam).
• Wear an outfit with a separate top and bottom.
• Bring any mammography images and reports you have that were not done at Clear Connect Medical Imaging
• If you have sensitive breasts, schedule your mammogram at a time when your breasts are least sensitive.
• Arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time.

What To Expect

1. You will disrobe from the waist up and put on a robe. 
2. The radiologist will position your breast on a platform and then compress the breast with a paddle. This will even out the breast so that all of the breast tissue can be better visualized.
3. Two views of each breast will be taken for a screening mammogram. Some women may need to have more pictures taken to see as much breast tissue as possible.The technologist will reposition you between views.

A screening mammogram usually only takes about ten minutes.
